As a lifelong practitioner of health and fitness, Derek grew up playing soccer, hockey, baseball, tennis, volleyball and basketball. At Vancouver Island University, he received a diploma in Physical Education while earning all-conference honours on the basketball court. During this time, his love of the weight room continued to grow. For the next 15 years, Derek has devoted himself to learning everything he possibly could about weight training, proper nutrition and the bodybuilding lifestyle. Derek also studied several years of muay thai boxing. It first began as a means of cross training and learning new training techniques, but quickly it became a competitive pursuit.
Derek believes that a sound workout regimen consists of first determining a clients specific needs, and then incorporating a variety of styles and methods. He utilizes not only conventional weight training, high intensity interval training, various other resistance training modes, but also aspects of martial arts and yoga, giving a diverse, enjoyable approach to training.
With 30 years of playing various sports, 25 years of hitting the weights as well as 15 years training others, Derek knows his way around a gym!
